Vintage Museum

Allan King and his late wife Barbara collected vintage clothing for over 20 years. For years, the King family held fashion shows to gather the funds necessary to open the museum.

In 2002, in conjunction with the Wild Wonderful Women organization, the dream of the King family became reality. The museum opened with a feature exhibit of the Civil War era. In October 2008, the museum moved to a new, expanded location just north of the Days Inn in Oakhurst. The new feature exhibit is "The Little Black Dress: Elegant, Slimming, and Versatile." The feature exhibits have included a "Bridal Collection," "Nifty Fifties," "Winter Wonderland," "Textures and Styles," and more. The main feature exhibit changes eash season.

Visit the Victorian Room and see the 1790 ballroom slippers worn by Miss Lucy Wilson, the new exhibit "Dressing a Victorian Woman," dresses from the 1800's, as well as purses, fans, and hats from centuries past.

Other exhibits include a Civil War Sword, Civil War discharge papers, and military uniforms. The bridal collection includes wedding dresses dating from 1940 to the 1990’s  The children’s display includes shoes, clothing, dolls, and books of the 19th and 20th century.  The shelves on the walls are lined with a fantastic hat collection of cloches, bonnets, cartwheels, mourning bonnets, and much more  dating back to the Victorian times through the 1960’s.
